For many fully vaccinated people, the Delta surge spoiled what shouldâve been a glorious summer. Those who had cast their masks aside months ago were asked to dust them off. Many are still taking no chances. Some have even returned to all the same precautions they took before getting their shots, including avoiding the company of other fully vaccinated people.
Among this last group, a common refrain Iâve heard to justify their renewed vigilance is that âvaccinated people are just as likely to spread the coronavirus.â
This misunderstanding, born out of confusing statements from public-health authorities and misleading media headlines, is a shame.

Compulsive thinking is the process of continually analyzing and anguishing over oneâs thoughts.
It often results in rumination, in which an individual feels stuck mentally â rehashing their past or present decisions or actions, says Dr. Jeffrey Huttman, a licensed psychologist and the executive director at Palm Beach Institute.
Compulsive thinkers are highly aware of their thoughts, but they also spend a lot of time trying to understand their thoughtsâ causes and meanings.

But the 14-year-old also knows that the future looks very different for her generation if the world doesnât act to slow global warming and the effects of climate change. Still, sheâs optimistic that the âcollective actionâ of people her age will turn the tide.
Thatâs probably why Umashankar has already been doing more than her fair share.
