Youâll be aware that the old immortality game is already being played by a number of other tech bros, from Google co-founder Larry Page to Peter Thiel, both of whom have siphoned serious millions into the idea that âdeath is a problem that can be solvedâ. Other figures have been linked to firms investigating the benefits of transfusing yourself with the blood of someone younger and poorer.
Indeed, as he ascended to the astral plane of gazillionaire retirement this year, Bezos quoted Richard Dawkins in his farewell email to Amazon shareholders. âStaving off death is a thing that you have to work at,â they learned. âIf living things donât actively work to prevent it, they would eventually merge with their surroundings and cease to exist as autonomous beings. That is what happens when they die.â
Far better to live on indefinitely â probably in a vast Lalique test tube â than to log off earthly existence and risk entry to the notional next world, where Bezos could easily be subject to retributive divine justice for all eternity. Or for the time it takes to get a call-back from Amazon customer service; whichever is longer.

Based on the extraordinary number of hours spent by me in watching movies of every possible language and genre, my wife used to have no problem relying on my cinematic viewing experience to select movies to watch on the weekend.
I was supposed to be her trusted and reliable source for movie recommendations â or so I thought till she started checking the ratings of the movie online â IMDb. Not only that, it hurts to know she has now grown more comfortable believing a group of strangers on the internet rather than a movie connoisseur like me.
Now the obvious question is how reliable and trustworthy are those movie ratings? Or for that matter any online ratings.

If youâre interested in staying healthy as you age â and living longer â you might want to add a different set of muscles to your workout routine: your creative ones. Ongoing research suggests that creativity may be key to healthy aging. Studies show that participating in activities such as singing, theater performance, and visual artistry could support the well-being of older adults and that creativity, which is related to the personality trait of openness, can lead to greater longevity.
When researchers talk about creativity, they arenât limiting it to the arts. Author and Georgetown University psychiatrist Norman Rosenthal defines being creative as âhaving the ability to make unexpected connections, either to see commonplace things in new ways â or unusual things that escape the attention of others â and realize their importance.â
